At Safeguarding Initiative, we are committed to supporting communities affected by natural disasters. On September 30th and October 1st, 2024, the team embarked on a humanitarian mission to support flood victims in Nakuru County who are still struggling to rebuild their lives after the devastating floods that displaced many families.
Day 1: Distribution in Baringo County
On Monday September 30th, we visited St. Theresa of Child Jesus Marigat in Baringo County, Kenya. We distributed 94 bags of essential food and hygiene items, including pads and bar soaps to families affected by the floods. These donations were a lifeline for many who are still trying to find stable housing and recover from the disaster.
Day 2: Aid in Mai Mahiu and Longonot
On Tuesday, October 1st, our mission continued with the distribution of 38 bags at St. Bakhita Catholic Parish, Mai Mahiu, and St. Simon and Jude, Longonot with 68 bags. Each package was carefully prepared to meet the basic needs of the families still coping with displacement and loss.
Onto the Impact
In total, we distributed 200 bags of relief items across these regions, offering much-needed support to families facing uncertainty. Many recipients shared the difficulties they’ve faced, including being asked to vacate temporary rental homes due to financial struggle.
Our Partners
This mission was made possible through the generous funding of Misio, whose contributions brought smiles and relief to the affected families. We are also grateful for the leadership and guidance of Sr. Jacinta, the coordinator of the Safeguarding Initiative at Tangaza University, who facilitated and oversaw the entire mission.
Spiritual Support
We were honoured to begin our mission with a blessing from Bishop Cleophas Oseso of the Nakuru Diocese, whose spiritual guidance empowered our team as we served the community.
At Safeguarding Initiative we are dedicated to continuing our work to provide essential relief and support to vulnerable communities. Thank you to all our partners and donors for making this mission a success.
